How does the programme considerate the damping of

Post by nikko »

hello,seismostruct support!
I have some question about defining damping!
1.The equivalent viscous damping should not be considerated if I model a RC multi-storey frame using fibre element.Because "cracking is explicitly account in fibre modelling" that is said in Help system. Is that right?
2. How does the programme considerate if I define Rayleigh damping at dialog box"Project Settings" when I use fibre element for modelling RC frame? Is this approach right?
3.If the second question is right, how are the value of damping of the first and last modes defined? As like some software(SAP2000),the value of damping is adopted 5%.

Your questions are of conceptual nature, hence we suggest you to read carefully and thoroughly the publications by Priestley & Grant [2005] and Hall [2006] indicated in the Help System.

In any case, we can also add that we advise users to employ tangent stiffness proportional damping, with an equivalent viscous value of 1-2%.
