Joints Horizontal Hoops Area and Vertical Reinforcement Area

Post by waltertw »

Hi,

I analysed a building and most of the time always fail at joints horizontal hoops area and vertical reinforcement area. How do you calculate these two areas? Are they obtain from column or beam?

They are obtained from the relevant code-based procedures of the Code that you have selected. Unfortunately, in many Codes these procedures are derived for new buildings, hence they are not 100% suitable for existing buildings and they lead to an underestimation of the capacity. Note that you can check things better by outputting the detailed calculations from Report>Detailed Calculations (Annex)>Joint Checks Calculations. In any case, you should study the corresponding sections for beam-column joints checks from the Code that you have selected
