cyclic loading for masonry infilled frame

Post by gemini »

i am doing cyclic loading using a truss element to model masonry infill wall, i am using static time history analysis to do so.. but my analysis does not complete saying unable to apply load and when i check displacement response of top nodes one node at which the load is applied shows cyclic displacement but the other end only shows positive displacement....could you please elaborate why is this happening

Hi Gemini. I am afraid that, without details or the model file, there is little that can be suggested regarding whether this is a modeling problem or a bug in the software. If you care to send the model, I'll be happy to look it over as I find the time.

The following verification problems should be very useful in understanding the steps required for various forms of cyclic loading.

Chapter 2, Example 11. 2D Frame Subjected to Earthquake Loading
Chapter 2, Example 16. SDOF System Subjected to Harmonic Loading
Chapter 4, RC Building Example 1. Nonlinear Dynamic Time History Analysis
Chapter 4, Steel Frames Example 1. Quasi-static Cyclic Loading

There are others. But these should help identify the process. Best of luck with your work.
