T-sectioned Masonry Shear Wall Section Definiton
Hi All,
I am trying to figure out a way to introduce a in-plane shear wall having a flange. What if I use either steel or reinforcement section but I employ masonry material model to create the section? The masonry section module gives me only the rectangular options, not the T-sectioned ones. But, I need to have T-sectioned walls.
I would be glad if you give me any idea regarding this.

By the way, if I use one vertical and one horizontal rectangular section, what should be the way to connect them together so that they can behave like a entire wall instead of two different members? I am not sure about the node or constraints details to model them using two different rectangular members.

Dear bduran,
You may assign a rigid link to connect the two different sections.
You can try it in the Building Modeller with RC sections to check how they are properly connected.

I tried to do that but it didn't work. This is because a model with one T-section bar has different stiffness than another one made, for example, with two bars (web and flange) connected by "Rigid Link".
That is, they present different displacement results.
Could you explain better your proposal please ? I may have misunderstood.

You need to connect both ends of the members with rigid links. This will ensure that the deformations are the same.

Sorry, but I tried to do this and it didn't work. Could you send me an example in SeismoStructure about a T-section wall made by assigning a Rigid link to connect the two different rectangular members (web and flange) in such a way that it has the same horizontal displacement as another T -section model made with an single frame element?

You can get this from the Building Modeller, if you connect two rectangular walls in T-shape.

See in this figure an example of a static analysis that compares a T-section model with another model connecting two rectangular T-shaped walls with "Rigid Link".
Note that the results of displacements in the direction of the force are different. Shouldn't they be the same?
