Performance Based Design using PEER TBI 2017 Guidelines

Post by Kirkaguel »

In the US practice of Tall Building Design most consulting firms are already implementing Performance Based Design using the PEER TBI 2017 Guildelines and the most practical software they used is Perform 3D, next are the Opensees and LS Dyna but the last two programs are research oriented and the pre and post processing is a tedious task.

I would like to ask the following questions as we are comparing Perform 3D with Seismostruct right now.

1. Does Seismostruct capable to comply the requirements stated in the PEER TBI 2017 Guidelines?
Here is the link of the guidelines https://peer.berkeley.edu/sites/default ... hlinks.pdf

2. Is it capable to post process results to get the mean response of interest i.e. rotation, rebar tensile strain, concrete compressive strain, drift of the building, shear forces and overturning moment

Perform 3D is not user friendly to use from modeling to applying the inelastic properties, post processing the result but right now it is the tool that is capable to comply the requirements of PEER TBI Guidelines, LATBDC, and CTUBH.

Hope to get some useful feedback

thanks in advance

1.. Which exactly requirements do you mean? In general, SeismoStruct capable of fully carrying our nonlinear dynamic time-history analysis considering 2nd order effects, as is required for tall buildings

2. Yes. Rotation, rebar tensile strain, concrete compressive strain, drift of the building, shear forces can be directly exported, whilst the overturning moment can be calculated from the members action effects. You can check SeismoStruct's capabilities in the Verification Report and the documentation of the program found at the following URLs:

Thanks for the replies Seismosoft support glad to hear that it seems capable to comply the PEER TBI Guidelines. We will proceed with our trial and post some queries from to time.
