Tuned mass damper

Post by avenger88 »

Hi all friends
I want to model the steel moment frame with tuned mass damper (TMD).

How i can define the spring, dashpot and mass in frame?

As discussed in the Help System (Element Classes -> Damping Element):
"dampers are normally modelled by means of link elements with adequate response curves that may be able to characterise the non-velocity-dependent (at least within the typical range of earthquake velocities) force-displacement relationship of a given damper"

Producers of damping devices provide the response curves of such devices under typical velocity ranges (i.e. values of velocity that one normally observes during an earthquake), exactly so that one may then model the effect of such dampers through the use of a link element.

Finally, please try to make one post per subject. More posts will probably delay rather than speed up the response.
