geometric imperfections for modeling of brace behavior

Post by Somayyeh »

Dear SEISMOSTRUCT Support Team,
My name is Somayyeh,
I have used truss element for modeling braces. For accurate modeling of brace behavior
at buckling, I want to use geometric imperfections. How can I assign imperfection to braces by SEISMOSTRUCT?

Hi Somayyeh.

First, you will likely get more response if you are careful about which forum you post in. I think you inadvertently asked a SeismoStruct question in the SeismoArtif forum area. I imagine that many who use SeismoStruct, but not SeismoArtif, never look in the SeismoArtif forum.

Second, one way to model imperfections is to simply define two elements making up each brace, with the common node coordinates set to give the desired imperfection (i.e., the 3 nodes making up the two elements are not collinear).

Third, best of luck Somayyeh.

Dear huffte,
Thank you for these useful information( both the appropriate forum and modelling imperfections).
