Two different reinforcement in the same section

Post by therrezeel »

Hi,

I'd like to model a wall with two different reinforcements in the same section.
The purpose is to put shape memory alloy (SMA - NiTi) in the boundaries of the wall, and classic steel in the web (see figure) at the plastic hinge region.
The problem so far is that when we create a section in the program, it only allows us to choose one reinforcement (see second figure).

Is there somebody who has already tried to model the same type of section and has succeed?

Thanks a lot for your help !

Dear therrezeel,

Unfortunately, you are not able to assign different reinforcement types in wall sections in the current version.
A new section is implemented in SeismoStruct 2018, which is the "Reinforced concrete rectangular no pseudo-columns wall section - rcbws". Hence, you may model it with 3 different sections, i.e. 2 "Reinforced concrete rectangular section - rcrs" for the pseudo columns and a "Reinforced concrete rectangular no pseudo-columns wall section - rcbws" for the web, linked with rigid links.

Dear Zoi Gronti,

Thanks for your quick response and sorry for mine so late after.
After weeks trying to reproduce a model with different sections and find the same result as in a paper we read (who did'nt use Seismostruct) in order to validate our model and then adapt it to our problem's geometry, we were unable to achieve it properly. We turned thus ourselves to another software (we are still trying to get proper results).

Hello therrezeel,
You might want to have a look at the verification report of SeismoStruct, where there are dozens of examples that compare SeismoStruct against experimental test (including several full size tests).
