Performance Criterion - Strength Degradation

Post by fcarrasco »

Hello, I would like to know how Seismostruct applies residual strength to the elements in the performance criterion tab. For example, if I model a simple cantilever RC column for a pushover analysis, and I set a performance criteria regarding a strain limit in the reinforcement bars with 80% residual strength: The residual strength is applied to the moment strength of the column, to the strain in the bar, to the elastic stiffness?, How is the residual strength considered and applied in the column?, to which capacity limit of the column?.

Thank you,
Felipe

Dear fcarrasco,

The user can specify the residual strength as a percentage of the capacity. This means that when a given performance criterion has been achieved, the stiffness matrix and the elements internal forces are taken as a percentage, defined in the residual strength, of the original values.
