Location of nodes

Post by Tdwa »

Greetings,

I am modeling a bridge pier. I need to model three pier types with different height. The first one has a height of 1059 mm, while the second and third piers are 1942 mm and 2824 mm in height. I divided the bridge pier into different elements similar following the verification example: Ch4-bridge-02
Please, how can I determine the number of elements (nodes) for each pier and location of each node (distance between successive nodes)?

Thanks in advance

It depends on the discretisation that you need and you accuracy that you want to achieve. Usually for a typical pier 5-6 integration sections should be enough. This can be achieved for instance with one infrmFB element or 4-5 infrmDB element. I suggest that you do some background reading on the element types of SeismoStruct.
