Performance point and Ss, S1

Post by rsadescon »

I'm currently evaluating the trial version of Seismobuild. I work with ASCE41-17
1.- Is there a graph that shows the intersection of the Capacity (pushover) curve vs. Spectral demand curve, thus defining the whole structure performance point?
2.- Defining Seismic action: Are the mapped spectral accelerations the values to input? Meaning: SXS = Ss and SXL = S1. Because the spectral graph next to them seems to be the elastic one with Sms and Sm1 and not the design one with Sds (2/3Sms) and Sd1 (2/3Sm1)?

Thank you in advance.

Hello rsadescon,

1. ASCE 41-17 employs the displacement coefficient method to calculate the target displacement for the different performance levels. Hence, the structure performance point are not identified through the intersection of the Capacity (pushover) curve ad the Spectral demand curve
2. Indeed the spectrum is the elastic one, since this is the type of spectrum required by pushover analysis

Hi Seismosoft Support,

It would be a great enhancement to the program if the demand curve can also be plotted against the capacity curve, other softwares are doing it i.e. ETABS, SAP, Midas etc. even if using the displacement coefficient method there is still the target displacement which is again the intersection of the demand curve and capacity curve which represents the global system response of the structure.
