Re: Effect of plastic hinge length

Indeed, the element behavior varies significantly with the length of the plastic hinge (and often without physical meaning).
It is strongly recommended to leave the default value.

Re: Lightly reinforced concrete walls

It depends on the modelling requirements, and I am afraid we cannot give you a straightforward answer. If it is a lightly reinforced concrete wall, it should be modelled either with a frame element (elastic or inelastic) or with shell (the elastic) elements. The latter is more accurate in the elasti...

Re: Viscous dampers

Indeed, it is in our plans to include dampers in SeismoBuild (and in the Building Modeller of SeismoStruct).
However, this will probably be done in 1-2 years time, depending on our development priorities.

Re: Envelope shape by accelerogram

In some of the employed methods (e.g. Artificial Accelerogram Generation) the envelope shape is input by the user. In others (e.g. Synthetic Accelerogram Generation & Adjustment) the envelope shape is provided by the algorithm. You need to check the help system of the program and the methodology...

Re: Lightly reinforced concrete walls

It depends. If the wall is part of the load resisting mechanism, it should be modelled as a frame element. If instead the wall has been built after the completion of the frame of the building, it should be modelled as an infill. The key element here is whether the wall is employed to resist the grav...

Re: Modelling of a UHPC jacketted circular section

The cover of the section is the cover of the jacket. Reinforced concrete jackets always have concrete cover, which is the concrete outside the jacket reinforcement (typically 2-3 cm as is the cover in plain sections).

Re: Acceleration to displacement from data set

What you get is a record without baseline correction (and possibly filtering). This is a common issue with uncorrected records. If you apply baseline correction and filtering, this trend in the displacement will disappear. Note however, that these features are supported only by the full version of t...

Re: Relationship between CFRP laminates and Fibers

The cured laminate properties of an FRP fabric are the one with the combined material (FRP fabric)+(epoxy resin). The fiber properties are the ones for the FRP fabric alone. Some manufacturers provide the details of the former, some provide the latter and some provide both. This is what we have incl...
