Product Updates

Below, please find an overview of the improvements and new features introduced in SeismoSpect over the years; do familiarise yourself in particular with those introduced in this latest release.

Support for the UBC 1997 and the National Building Code of Canada (2015) code-based spectra

Minor bug fixes

A bug in the calculation of the A95 parameter is fixed.

New features

Possibility to output a log file with the final selection of records, including the scaling factors, as well as all the options made by the user to arrive at the final records list.

Bug fixes

Some minor bug fixes.

New features

1. Introduced Standarised Cumulative Absolute Velocity CAVSTD parameter in the ‘Ground Motion Parameters’ module

2. Support for ASCE 7-16 response spectrum

3. National Annexes of Eurocode available in the definition of the Eurocode 8 spectra

4. Support for the ESM format for opening accelerograms

New features

Support for the Korean, Romanian and Australian Code Based Spectra.

Bug fixes

Some minor bug fixes.

New features

1. Support for the .eq files output by the SHAKE software for opening accelerograms

2. Support for 26 Code Based Spectra including the spectrum of Eurocode 8, ASCE 41 13 and other Regulations worldwide

3. Introduced Number of Effective Cycles, Damage Index, IP index, Average Spectal Acceleration and Maximum Incremental Velocity in the ‘Ground Motion Parameters’ module

4. Introduced the option of acausal filtering of accelerograms

Bug fixes

Several minor bug fixes.

New features

1. Connection to the most well-known on-line earthquake record databases

2. Support for the SMC and the PEER NGA formats for opening accelerograms

3. Easier opening of the record files with automatic detection of the end of file

4. Ability to save and load the plot settings in the post-processor plots, which makes very easy the exportation of the format of one graph to the others

5. New project format of the input file that allows for even faster opening of large projects with many records

Bug fixes

Several minor bug fixes.

Minor updates and bug fixes

1. Updated the set of exemplificative accelerograms included with the program

2. Changed the default value of the first and last line in the ‘Input Parameters’ dialog box

3. Corrected units conversion bug in the calculation of inelastic velocity and displacement spectra

4. Corrected bug in response spectrum time-step incrementation after 4.34 seconds

5. Corrected the way in which ‘refresh’ is carried out in the ‘Time Series’ module

6. Removed the ‘Krawinkler and Nassar [1992] Modified’ simplified inelastic response spectrum method (it was leading to very innacurate results when used to compute displacement response spectra)

7. Introduced a ductility correction coefficient in the computation of displacement response spectra using simplified methods

8. Introduced warning message discouraging users from computing inelastic velocity response spectra using the simplified response spectra methods

9. The ‘Filter Gain’ plot now correctly indicates as upper-bound filtering frequency a value that is 1/2 of the record’s time-step frequency

10. When the calculation of inelastic response spectra option is selected, the equivalent viscous damping value is automatically changed to 5%, so as to render clear that this is the value always employed

11. Introduced ‘Mean Spectrum + StDev’ and ‘Mean Spectrum + 2StDev’ tabular format output

12. Added links to the Video Tutorials and to the Discussion Forum both in the menu and in the toolbar

13. Minor updates to Help System

New features

1. Increased the maximum allowed number of accelerogram data points to 2^18, i.e. 262144 points

2. Introduced the possibility of using comma as decimal separator

3. Loaded time-histories can now be reordered

4. Allowed reference spectrum to be plotted on the response spectra plot (changing thus the ‘Differences’ options box into a ‘View’ options box)

5. Introduced the possibililty of defining an EC8 code spectrum as reference spectrum

6. Added the possibility of saving several accelerograms in a text file

7. Created a user defined default directory for input accelerograms (as well as one for saving data)

8. Introduced in the General Settings the possibility of disabling background shading of plots (useful for printing purposes)

Other minor updates

1. Extended coverage of cases where user is advised to save the file in DOS/Windows text format before trying to open it in SeismoSpect

2. Default decimal places changed to 5 (amongst other things, to facilitate reproduction of results when reopening and reprocessing saved records)

3. Added “%” symbol to the damping input box

4. Changed the nomenclature “target spectrum” into “reference spectrum”

5. Introduced in the Help System two additional references to publications discussing issues of record filtering, plus other minor changes

6. Locked data copying and saving for unregistered users

Minor bug fixes

1. Corrected ‘range check error’ when opening files with many zeros at the start

2. In the Ground Motion Parameters module, removed “Matched” from the horizontal axis label

3. When a new Project is started, with the program already opened, customised settings were being ignored

4. When resizing the program’s window, not all three time-history plots were being resized

5. Reference spectrum input files were being locked by the program

6. Predominant period was being miscalculated on some occasions

7. Elminated locking of ‘Load spectrum from file’ option

8. Several bugs corrected in the ‘Save Acceleration Time-histories’ module

Minor updates

1. Pop-up advice to users on what to do when academic license email cannot be sent

2. Avoid false virus warnings (mainly Nod32), and incompatibilities with background monitoring software DeepFreeze

3. Updated Help System to note that ‘Total Duration’ is used in the calculations of a number of ground motion parameters and also to clarify criteria employed in the computation of SMA and SMV

4. Introduced Housner Intensity in the ‘Ground Motion Parameters’ module

5. Changed slightly the order in which ground motion parameters are output (to render it consistent with SeismoSignal)

6. When reading an input file, consecutive values separated only by a “-” sign are now adequately recognised

7. Corrected minor bug in the definition of maximum and minimum values for the vertical axis of time-history plots

Corrected bug in the ‘Spectra Comparisons’ module that was leading to erroneous ‘relative differences’ results. Minor updates to the registration and licensing modules.

SeismoSpect has been programmed from scratch, and in its entirety, at SeismoSoft, using the Delphi Pascal Integrated Development Environment.
