constant ductility spectra

Post by sam123 »

Hi everyone

What procedure is used in Seismosignal to obtain constant ductility spectra? Please explain required steps for calculating constant ductility spectra in this software.

Thanks so much

Hi sam123. I cannot speak to the precise algorithm used in SeismoSignal. But in general, an iterative procedure is required. Mass and stiffness values are assigned to produce the desired initial period. A yield force could then be assumed for that period and the analysis performed for the given time accelerogram. If the resulting ductility is less than desired, then the yield force would be reduced. If the resulting ductility is larger than desired, then the yield force would be increased. You'll notice the iterations progressing in the lower left hand corner of the SeismiSignal window. I hope this helps.

Many thanks Tim,
This is exactly what SeismoSignal does... (and you probably described it much better than us!).
