Re: bracketed and effective duration

H Anjali.

I see what is happening. The total Arias Intensity for your E/W component is 0.02829 m/s.

Remember that the default values are rounded to two decimal places.

So, 5% of 0.02829 = 0.0014, which is 0.00 rounded to two decimal places.
And, 95% of 0.02829 = 0.0269, which is 0.03 rounded to two decimal places, which is greater than the total.

That is why the default values show up as 0.00 and 0.03, both invalid numbers.

I do not see a problem with your calculated durations. I would recommend entering threshold values to 6 decimal places when you are calculating effective durations, however. I believe you will find the effective duration converging to the significant duration and any difference between the two being round off error in effective duration thresholds.

Best of luck, Anjali. - Tim
