BRBF Model

Post by khalili »

Dear friends
How we can model the BRB (Buckling-Restrained Brace) in seismostruct for nonlinear time history analysis?

thanks

Dear khalili,

Would the modelling of the braces without initial imperfection be a solution to your query?

Dear Zoi Gronti,
I want to evaluation nonlinear seismic behavior of a 16 story buckling restrained braced frame by seismostruct software.
then i should model a buckling-restrained braced frame (BRBF) for nonlinear time history analysis.
thanks

Dear khalili,

There is a video available about how to create a SeismoStruct model in the links below:

You may find a number of video tutorials in Seismosoft's YouTube channel and Facebook page.

Finally, you may find example with braces in the Verification Report of SeismoStruct (Chapter 2- Example 7).

Hi
In response to this question, i'd like to mention that BRBFs should be modeled using "Truss Element Class" and there are some specific modifications that should be taken into account in Defining the material properties.Researchers might find the following article useful:
"Component Testing, Stability Analysis and Characterization of Buckling-Restrained Unbonded Braces" by Cameron Black, Nicos Makris, Ian Aiken
