Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) Modeling

Post by burakduran »

Dear Friends,

I want to model one-storey and one-bay RC frame and also I want to add a diagonal member to this system to get seismic behavior. I plan to see the effect of retrofitting procedure by using Superelastic SMA material. But, I am not sure that stress-strain relationship of this material given in the program is trustworthy or not. However, how can I add the diagonal member to this system ? What will be the connections ? Please help me to model such a system to obtain most accurate results.

Hi burakduran. I would suggest a good starting place might be to review Chapter 2 / Example 7 in the Verification Report which is included with SeismoStruct.

Additionally, you will get a large number of hits if you go to the Getting Started With The Modeling section of the SeismoStruct forum and perform a search on "truss element", or other similar phrases you might come up with. It is quite possible that your questions have already been answered.

Best of luck burakduran.
