How can I model a stirrup hoop using 4mm bars?

Post by wangguojue »

Recently I started to use seismostruct to model and analyze my reduced-scale experiment.
However, in my reduced-scaled experiment, the size of stirrup bars is 4mm which cannot be simulated in the Seismostruct, beacuse the minimum size of stirrup bars in seismostruct is 5mm.
My question is: how can I model a 4mm-stirrup-bar in Seismostruct?

Thanks very much

Dear wangguojue,

You could calculate the confinement factor by hand and assign it in the Section Characteristics module or you could assign an equivalent bar size and spacing using a bar size available in SeismoStruct in order to get the same confinement factor with the original section.

Hi Zoi Gronti:

This is what I did in the modelling procedure. By the way, if Seismosoft can develop user-defined function for bar size, that will be good for the software.
Thanks very much for your reply!
